There is a hint of Fame and the recent film, Camp in Raise Your Voice – a Hilary Duff movie set in a Los Angeles music school for talented kids.

Hilary plays Arizona hometown girl, Terri Fletcher whose dream is to go to the school but whose father (David Keith) is against it. Terri’s biggest fan is her brother, Paul (Jason Ritter) who, unbeknownst to his sister, sends the school a video of Terri in action. When Terri and Paul sneak out of the house one night to attend a rock concert, a drunken truck driver smashes into their car and Paul is killed.

Blaming herself for Paul’s death, Terri sinks into a depression and loses interest in her singing, but then she receives a letter telling her that she has been accepted into the school and her mother (Rita Wilson) and free-spirited aunt, Nina (Rebecca De Mornay) persuade her to take the three-week course. While she’s away, Terri’s father believes she is spending the time with Nina, who lives in nearby Palm Desert.

At the school, Terri meets her perfect match in a student named Jay (Oliver James) with whom she teams up romantically and as one half of a song-writing duo to compete for a school scholarship. Her new circle of friends, who, with Jay, revitalise her joy of singing, also includes her violin-playing roommate, Denise (Dana Davis), an offbeat percussionist called ‘Kiwi’ (Johnny K Lewis) and the solemn and seemingly aloof girl of his dreams, a classical pianist called Sloane (Kat Dennings). There’s a villain of course, and that’s Jay’s bitchy former girlfriend, Robin (Lauren C Mayhew) who refuses to accept that they are no longer an item and who does her best to scuttle the relationship between Terri and Jay.

However, an even bigger upset threatens Terri’s future plans when her father finds out where she really is…
