Nobody used to notice Frank Lucas (Washington), the quiet driver to one of the inner city’s leading black crime bosses. But when his boss suddenly dies, Frank exploits the opening in the power structure to build his own empire and create his own version of the American Dream. Through ingenuity and a strict business ethic, he comes to rule the inner-city drug trade, flooding the streets with a purer product at a better price. Lucas outplays all of the leading crime syndicates and becomes not only one of the city’s mainline corrupters, but part of its circle of legit civic superstars. Richie Roberts (Crowe) is an outcast cop close enough to the streets to feel a shift of control in the drug underworld. Roberts believes someone is climbing the rungs above the known Mafia families and starts to suspect that a black power player has come from nowhere to dominate the scene. Both Lucas and Roberts share a rigorous ethical code that sets them apart from their own colleagues, making them lone figures on opposite sides of the law. The destinies of these two men will become intertwined as they approach a confrontation where only one of them can come out on top. Cinebuzz Member Comments on American Gangster

PARA WARA on 18/04/2008 at 12:58:45 PM A good movie although the story has been done before, very good acting and an enjoyable consuming movie. popcorn on 26/02/2008 at 4:57:48 PM Great movie... but ifelt it dragged on a bit. Needed more action. Crossy on 20/02/2008 at 11:18:45 AM So far movie of the year. Brilliant jkings on 18/02/2008 at 4:36:04 PM Best movie I have seen for a very long time! deb the dag on 16/02/2008 at 10:00:54 AM Very good movie with good performances from Washington and Crowe. Supporting cast also delivers. Graphic violence and drug use is depicted and adds quite effectively to the drama that unfolds. Scary to think this movie is based on actual events that occured not all that long ago. It was a little long but worth seeing. MovieKal on 14/02/2008 at 8:31:28 AM It's like "Serpico" but more realistic and more dirty-gritty. Russel and Denzel are good. Not a "fun" movie, more like a documentary of were our corrupt world is right now. Bumble-Bee on 5/02/2008 at 8:30:47 PM I was surprised how much I enjoyed this movie. Definatly need to be at least 16/17 to see it though. I would give it an 8/10, and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good, realistic drama. Good work! i_the_shortest on 4/02/2008 at 11:58:33 AM I enjoyed this movie, even with the violence and drug use and Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe were very good. Rating 8/10 horselover on 1/02/2008 at 7:09:13 PM i really liked this movie, very interesting. dont go see it if you want lots of action though, it's more of a drama id say -Mishkin- on 26/01/2008 at 10:23:11 PM
